Splice: Director Vincenzo Natali

From the director of The Cube comes Splice , sci-fi horror B-movie starring Adrian Brody as fellow scientist who experiment with bio-engineering. The scientists decide to carry on their experiments after the director pulls the plug ...bad move...Fans of horror and science fiction know from films such as Frankenstein and The Fly this can only end in disaster. But it’s always fun getting there, and what a ride it is. The special effects are totally believable as the creature they create develops into a human hybrid of frightening proportions.  They have to keep it a secret as it grows rapidly into a child-like creature they nurture and grow attach to. The most frightening scene is when Brody realizes that it was his wife’s own DNA that constituted part of the mix. He confronts her about it saying that, you didn’t want a child but this is ok because you can control it as part of an experiment. But the point of these sorts of films is that you can’t control and predict what a man- made creature can do. It becomes like their off-spring to the point of telling it off for bad behaviour.  But all children grow up into adults with a mind of their own and sexual awakenings that result in changes. It is these changes that become their undoing.  As the creature wants more than a Barbie doll and cats for pets...most satisfying tale that creeps you out with a smile on your face.
